The H5x Hybrid Cycle
combines
the best of both upright and recumbent cycling.

With the E5xc
good things come in a small package.

IHRSA celebrated its 25th
Anniversary Convention and Tradeshow this year in Las
Vegas. The IHRSA show has solidified itself over the
years as the industry’s largest and best attended trade
show; this year was no exception with over 12,000
fitness industry professionals from 70 nations in
attendance. In fact, this may have been one of the best
events in several years with record-breaking numbers for
the association’s 25th Anniversary.
Attendance was up and buyers were definitely in action
to view a number of new product innovations, including
the Matrix H5x Hybrid Cycle.
Although the Hybrid Cycle
was first introduced at Club Industry as a concept
product, it made a huge impact with the official launch
at the IHRSA show. Customers are continually impressed
with the comfort and effectiveness of this unique and
innovative cycle. In a post show review, SNEWS wrote,
“One of the real innovations at the show is the Matrix
Hybrid Bike that is a cross between a recumbent and an
upright bike, i.e. a higher seat than a recumbent but
lower than an upright, and with a backrest and arm rests
like recumbents have and a full-walk-through design.
It's an intriguing blend that we think will find certain
markets and that demographics are attracted to.”
Other new Matrix products
include the E5xc Elliptical Cross Trainer. The E5xc
delivers all of the same features and ergonomic feel as
the E5x Elliptical, but comes in a compact package that
is 13” shorter than most other ellipticals. Several
redesigned products also debuted at the show including a
new step-through design on the R5x Recumbent, and an LED
console version on the T3x Treadmill for an exceptional
value.
Finally, Matrix expanded
its free weight lineup from 4 to 20 pieces, so
facilities can offer in their free weight area, the same
superior look and finish as our G2 selectorized
machines. All free weight machines come standard with a
durable polarized titanium paint, and secondary clear
coat finish.
Matrix has built its
reputation for being an industry leader in aesthetics,
quality and 5-Star Service. "Our customers are
feeling very positive and optimistic," said Nathan
Pyles, CEO of Matrix Fitness. "It's a healthy industry
and growing industry." With the current launch of new
products, Matrix is now flexing its innovation muscles. |

THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER MAINTENANCE
AND CARE FOR YOUR FITNESS EQUIPMENT |
|
|
|
|
In an industry
where it is survival of the fittest, an
out-of-order sign is the last thing you want to
see on equipment in your facility. IHRSA
recently released an article, US Industry
Growth Stalls at 41.3 Million Members, which
states US health club membership has stalled for
the first time in ten years while the number of
US clubs has continued to increase from 26,831
in 2004 to 29,061 in 2005. This stall in
memberships means it’s more important than ever
to keep existing members. Proper maintenance and
care of equipment helps both retain, and
increase memberships. Here are a few simple
things your facility can do to avoid equipment
problems and down time.
Rotate your cardio
equipment at least once a year.
Just like slot
machines in a casino, the machines you have on
the end of your aisles see much more use than
the ones in the center. If you can keep the
accumulated time and distance for your equipment
consistent, you can increase the average life
span, as well as help maintain an even
appearance.
Cleaning
should be a routine task.
The exterior of the
product should be cleaned on a daily basis. Use
cleaning products that are alcohol and
ammonia-free, and adhere to the manufacturer’s
warranty. Schedule quarterly maintenance on
cardio machines as dust is one of electronics
biggest enemies. Vacuum under motor covers and
under the chassis of cardio machines.
Have rules that
help you maintain your equipment.
It is important
that members do not bring the outside in with
them. Snow, salt, mud, and sand will quickly
cause premature wear on or in any moving parts.
Implement a “No Street Shoes” policy. This also
helps with the overall cleanliness of your
facility. It is essential that floor staff
create a culture than encourages wiping down
equipment after their workouts. To aid in this
effort, easy access to machine wipes should be
maintained.
Create a serial
number log.
Use stick-on
numbered decals to catalog all of your machines,
then cross reference the numbered machines with
their individual serial numbers. Have this list
available to floor staff and members for an easy
and accurate way to log problems. This will aid
in stream lining the service process, and
provides a concise reference of individual
problems and individual machines. In the event a
problem does exist, inspect the equipment before
contacting a service department, a preliminary
diagnosis can take days off of down times.
Lead by example.
In your facilities,
if employees and members see management cleaning
or inspecting equipment, they will quickly
follow suit. Maintain high standards of
cleanliness in common areas, this will encourage
the staff and members to keep it clean
themselves.
Proper equipment maintenance will
not only keep your equipment running smoothly,
but your membership renewals will benefit as
well. |

"In the
past month that we've had our Matrix equipment, our
Wellness Center has been in use practically non-stop.
First time users are not intimidated by the equipment,
yet, the more serious members who work out on a daily
basis find the equipment meets all of their needs plus
more. Our Matrix equipment has allowed our Galowich YMCA
the opportunity to provide our members with a well
rounded workout while also meeting our budget
constraints. I would encourage everyone to take a long
look at the Matrix products. They're well worth it!!!" -
